Last night, Cartoon Network aired what may have been the series finale for “The Secret Saturdays.” If it was, I want to say out loud that the producers did a wonderful job tying up all of story threads and left the viewer feeling complete. If it wasn’t, I just don’t know how you match, let alone exceed what was broadcasted last night.
Every character stayed in character, especially Drew Saturday, whose whining about things being dangerous for her “baby boy,” Zak, frankly got on my nerves. But in time,I came to understand Drew because she’d lost her parents when she was five and her protectiveness of her family was in reaction to that lost.
The episode, “The War of the Cryptids” found Drew and her brother getting closure on the deaths of their parents after 27 years; Zak coming to grips with his Kur powers and Argost discovering the true cost of achieving his dream.
What I really found interesting was that every character introduced in this series had a purpose for introduction and contributed to the outcome of the finale. Let me say that again, every character introduced, whether in season one or in the next to the last episode had a purpose. There are not a lot of series that could say that.
This was a series that I enjoyed more than any other cartoon series I’ve ever watched and that includes Justice League. It was complete. Yes, I’d like another season, but it’s okay if it doesn’t happen. This series has been that good.
I know I’m 2 years late but I just started watching this show on boomerang and I just finishe watching my 3rd episode an let me tell you tomorrow me and chartoon network are going to have a serious talk about cancellin this show I know im 2 years late and all but this show is and was amazing and after I buy season 1 & 2 on DVD i would really, really, really appriatiate it of CN decided to surprise everyone with a revival of the secret Saturday’s which will be going in my tv royal collection!
To clear up any confusion when i said me and CN are going to have a talk, I’m just going to email them lol I have no connection to CN whatsoever, if I did or every do, expect more Zak Saturday! Lol
From, the girl who is 2 yeas late, Jamie lol
Jamie, appreciate your comment. Glad you’re enjoying the series, however be careful when buying the DVDs. The complete series consists of 36 episodes and the “volume” sets (1 & 2) only go up to episode 10. At the moment, there is not a season or complete collection set for the Saturdays. Your best bet, particularily since you are only up to episode 3 is to record the series yourself. Boomerang is very good about playing the episodes in order.
Welcome to the fandom. You’ll enjoy this well thought out series.
Well I Just finished watching the The Secret Saturdays and I completely loved it… The shows characters all play out good in the story and to not have just one of them would make the story less exciting. I personally think that they did a good job to have Zak have parents that are main characters, alive, and still married because most cartoon parents are either divorced, dead, or they are minor characters that are almost never shown. It also is nice how Zak seems to act more like a kid his age does in most shows the kid doesn’t ever ack like their age. The ending was sad when Van Rook( don’t know if I spelled that right) died cause he was starting to become a good guy… But it was nice for home to have died in the arms of the workman he love even though she didn’t love him. Anyhow the series was pretty good and I liked it a lot! Go Secret Saturdays!!
