The Re-release of the 1973 Buckingham Nicks Album

The Re-release of the 1973 Buckingham Nicks Album

On July 22, 2025 singers Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham (formerly of Fleetwood Mac) announced that their 1973 studio album, Buckingham Nicks, would be reissued on September 19th using the old analog master tapes.

If you’ve spend anytime on this blog at all, you’d know I’m a big Fleetwood Mac fan. Sadly, I’m not excited about this reissue of what I think is a bad album. Don’t get me wrong. I love Fleetwood Mac. I have every relevant group album from the 1975 Fleetwood Mac album to the 1997 The Dance. And I’ll be the first one to say that the addition of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham to the British blues rock band named Fleetwood Mac created a musical powerhouse.

I’ll also be blunt. Of the ten songs on the solo Buckingham Nicks album, only 2 of them are really Fleetwood Mac-like. One, Crystal, would end up on the 1975 re-formulated group album, Fleetwood Mac. The other song, Frozen Love, would achieve fame by being the song Mick Fleetwood heard while scouting studios. The guitar work on the song would lead to Fleetwood asking Buckingham to join Fleetwood Mac. Buckingham famously agreed to join on the condition that Nicks would also join the band. Mick Fleetwood agreed and modern rock musical history was made.

I do wish to be fair. The album is not a total loss. Fleetwood Mac did incorporate a couple of the songs off this album for their touring live shows. The songs included Don’t Let Me Down Again and Frozen Love, in addition to Crystal.

I grant you, the album cover is eye-catching to say the least, but that is not enough for me to say this is a must have album. I’d suggest you listen to the tracks below and make your own decision as to how good or bad this out-of-print album was.

Look, Fleetwood Mac formed in 1967 and made 9 albums before Buckingham and Nicks joined the group in 1975.  It wouldn’t  hurt to add Buckingham Nicks to your album collection if you’re a dedicated fan of the two. However, if you are expecting Rumours or Mystery to Me caliber songs, you will be sorely disappointed. It’s just an okay album that showcases Buckingham’s fantastic guitar talents.
