The End of Cul de Sac

In April, I wrote that Rueben award winner, Richard Thompson, creator of the daily comic strip Cul de Sac had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.  The disease had taken its toll on him and left him unable to draw his strip.  In March of this year, Thompson teamed up with culdesacpeteychildren’s book illustrator, Stacey Curtis, in an effort to continue the strip.

But as it turns out this was not enough.  Thompson and his syndicate, Universal Uclick, made the announcement in mid-August that they would be ending Thompson’s strip on September 23.  The ravages of the disease left him unable to meet syndication deadlines.  As one who really enjoyed this comic strip, I am deeply saddened by the news and the loss of this guilty pleasure.  The Otterloop family, especially little Alice and her brother, Petey (pictured) will be missed. I personally wish Mr. Thompson the very best. The last official strip (which is a rerun of a 2007 strip) is here. The comic has started running from its beginning so now is a perfect time for new readers to meet this wonderful family. Please take the time to introduce yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
