Last month, I told you about Rayna Ford who got a chance to play on stage with Paul Simon during his concert. Now, let me introduce you to 8 year old Sariah Gallego who wanted to apprentice to Darth Vader. Yup, she wanted to join the Sith Lord and fight the rebellion. Well, she got her chance and now is known as Sith Girl or Darth Sariah.
Earlier this year, little Sariah Gallego’s parents took her to Disneyland where she got a chance to attend and participate in the “Jedi Academy” Star Wars show. As you can see below, Sariah did not hesitate to let Darth Vader know she wanted to fight at his side and not with the Jedi.
While this scene is unbelievably cute, that is not the reason I mention it. Sariah’s dad used this moment as a life lesson for his daughter. He created a website that will allow Sariah to sell tee-shirts commemorating her turn to the dark side. The selling of the shirts isn’t to make money for the Gallego family. You see, Sariah’s family sponsors a young 8 year old girl in the Philippines named Heidden through Children’s International. Sariah’s dad told her that “if you have 15 minutes of fame, do something responsible with it.” So Sariah is starting a non-profit foundation to sponsor little girls around the world through Children’s International using 50% of the profits from the sale of the tee-shirts.
Now, I’m not suggesting you buy anything from the site because at this point the site is not finished. It lacks contact info and other information to make me feel safe enough to contribute to what is perhaps a very good cause. But if all the info on the site is true, then the Dark Side of the Force may not be so bad after all. If Sariah Gallego’s heart is any indicator, I think the world could use a few more people like Darth Sariah.
