Rushing to Disaster

Rush Limbaugh wants to buy the St. Louis Rams football team. That is, he wants to be a minority stake holder in a bid being put together by Dave Checketts, owner of the St. Louis Blues.  I hope the NFL turns down Checketts’ bid if it contains money from Limbaugh.  And it just might do it based on recent comments from two prominent NFL insiders.

Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, has vowed to vote against Limbaugh’s bid saying, “I, myself, couldn’t even consider voting for him. When there are comments that have been made that are inappropriate, incendiary and insensitive … our words do damaged and it’s something that we don’t need.”  And the number one man himself, Commissioner Roger Goodell said the conservative commentator’s “divisive” comments would not be tolerated from any NFL insider.

If Limbaugh is ultimately turned down (as I personally hope he will be), you can bet he will tell all his beloved “ditto head” listeners that the NAACP or Al Sharpton (or someone else of color) kept another conservative American from achieving his dream.  The problem is that Limbaugh believes that in order for him to succeed, someone else must fail. That is what he tells his listeners every day much more harshly than what I’ve just written here.  I hope the NFL tells Limbaugh that they have a better chance of succeeding in St. Louis if he fails.

ETA: Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday night that Checkett has dropped Limbaugh from the bid he is putting together. It seems common sense prevails after all.
