This is going to be one of my shorter post of the year.
A year ago today, I retired from my job in California and move to Georgia. On a whole, the decision to retire when I did has been one of the better moves in my life. Like everything else in life there have been some ups and downs, but after a year I think I’ve had many more ups than downs and for that, I’m grateful.
By happenstance, I picked a great place to retire to and I’m blessed with some really great neighbors. The lower cost of living here has allowed my retirement dollars to stretch much further than they would have in California. So, basically it’s been very easy to settle into a daily routine here.
Of course, there are many things about California that I still miss. We were there for more than 25 years and we made a lot of friends there and still have family there who we miss dearly. But I do not miss the state taxes, the price of gas, the traffic or the price of water in Southern California.
After all that has been said, the past year has been a great journey. It’s one I hope to continue for some time.
Wow! It’s been a year already??? Glad you are happy with your retirement and your move to Georgia. We still need to do dinner sometime, since you’re now on my side of the country.
Agreed…this spring/summer for sure… 🙂
