This site looks different, doesn’t it?
Welp, it is different, but not because I wanted it to be. Let me tell you what happened as best I can, based upon what we (my hosting company and me) think happened.
First some background: This site runs on WordPress and until last week, used the WordPress theme Whitehouse as its backbone. I purchased the theme more than 10 years ago and loved the heck out of it. It didn’t matter to me whether or not the authoring company was still in business (it isn’t). It was just easy and it worked.
The Whitehouse WordPress theme became my “go to” for expanding the site. It worked and I didn’t have a need (or desire) to change it. That is, until this week.
WordPress has continually updated its software since I started using it. I started with version 3.5 and now it is up to version 6.4. You can see the problem. My WordPress theme was originally written for a version of the software that no longer exist. Nevertheless, the Whitehouse theme continued to chug along until it crashed with the latest WordPress update.
I will confess: I was near tears because I knew this would happen eventually, but I prayed the day would never come. But it did. So I have spent the last two days rebuilding this site using another WordPress theme. Some features from the old site didn’t make into this one (because I haven’t figured out how to do them under this new site) and some things don’t work as expected. Maybe it’s just as well. Frankly, my days of having a website at all are numbered. Maybe all of this is Fate’s way of telling me to slow down.
Anyway, this is a new old site (and a history of this website from 2011 is here). As always, you are welcomed here and I thank you for reading.
