This is about one of those sad moments in life when you realize that those you depend upon every day are mortal and will die. This morning my Sunbeam 10 cup coffee maker failed to wake up after being turned off yesterday. Without its hot and loving brew, I’ve been completely lost and disoriented all day.
This pot had been a member of my household for five years. It cost $10 at Walmart and wasn’t fancy or fast at all. It didn’t have an automatic turn on/ turn off, lighted dials or any of the deluxe features I had in previous coffee makers. At least once every two weeks, I would forget to turn the pot off and my MSO and I would come home to smell of a burning coffee pot. Not pleasant, but we’d rinse the pot out and the next morning it would act like nothing happened and make great coffee again.
Tomorrow is trash day and I shall lovely dispose of my little coffee pot that did everything it was asked to do. The replacement has been selected and will make its first brew tomorrow morning. And tomorrow with that first cup, I shall toast the $10 coffee maker that serve me and mine so very well.
Here’s to you little coffee maker. Hope you’re making Breakfast Blend for the angels.
