The title of this post comes from that great scene in Fried Green Tomatoes where Katy Bates utters this line to some younger women at a shopping mall parking lot.
Hadn’t posted in my own journal recently (the “cut & paste” pre-election PSA doesn’t count) because I was in a traffic accident two weeks ago. My car was rear-ended at a traffic stop by a Toyota truck. No damage to the truck, $3400 damage to my car. (I had a headache and a little stiffness which has subsided.)
The one thing I have learned from this is that if you have an accident in Southern California between Saturday noon and Monday 8 AM, you are pretty much in a holding pattern because all the repair shops and car rental companies are closed and nothing will happen until 8:01 AM Monday morning. But other than that, my insurance company, Allstate, did everything I expected and more.
The car was driveable and I drove it home. On Monday, it was towed to the repair shop Allstate recommended. Allstate provided me with a rental car, told the repair shop to work up the estimates and then contacted me the next day to say they were prepared to authorize the repair shop to make and guarantee the repairs unless I wanted to wait on the other guy’s insurance company to pay for repairs. I said for Allstate to deal with the other guy’s insurance company and get me my car back. Long story short: the car was repaired and back to me within 6 days of the accident. My out of pocket expenses? Gas for the rental car and a $100 deductable which Allstate assures me they WILL recover from the other insurance company.
This is not a PSA for Allstate because I’ve had my share of disputes with them, but I want to say they did a great job for me on this and I am a very happy man because of them. 🙂
