Good News, Everyone!

Some people prefer to take the approach of Mabel King’s wonderful Evillene from the musical, The Wiz, and make a point to avoid hearing or reading bad news. Let’s face it, there are plenty of bad things going on in the world and you can make yourself believe the world is a pretty horrible place if you only focus on the bad or only watch broadcast news.  For those who say, “enough” and are only interested in the good news, below are four websites that might ease your anxieties for a while.

The Good Gazette. Their mission, in their own words “… is to bring you stories that highlight the positive, inspiring and heartwarming, that help you feel good while reading the news.”

Good Mood. As they state on their About page: “We are here, gathering, collecting, filtering and bringing forward the good news and bright lights in our life from all around the world so you can start your day with Good Mood and a smile.” The news comes from all over the globe. My only compliant was that I found the site to be a little slow in loading.

Arcamax.  Founded in 1999, ArcaMax Publishing is a leading provider of family-friendly news and fun on the Internet. They distribute hundreds of syndicated features to millions of subscribers by email daily.

Good News Network. I really like this site’s approach to their mission statement because it is reality based and not reality avoidance. As they say, “Negative news is an important staple of any well-informed citizenry and necessary for society’s evolution. But, today we are in dire need of a well-balanced media diet. Local TV news, especially, has been continually feeding us junk food. We need to be informed by a world view that is not dripping with sensationalism and attuned to the police scanner.”

Finally, if none of these ring your bell, Google has this search just for you.  Just remember, bad news doesn’t get better with time or by being ignored. But if you think you need a break from the “bubble headed bleach blonde” that Don Henley sang of, these sites will give you a well earned breather.

By the way, if you looked at the title of this post and immediately thought I might make a Professor Farnsworth of Futurama reference, well I was really close to doing exactly that, but I changed my mind at the last minute. But as to not disappoint those who know me best, here is the Professor announcing to the world the arrival of this post.
