Bringing in 2018 with Billy Joel

Carrying on with my tradition of closing out my end of year post with music, this year will feature Billy Joel in concert at Bonnaroo in 2015.

For the most part, 2017 wasn’t significantly different from 2016 for me. Whereas last year, I chose to close out the year with k.d. lang’s Hallelujah, because I had suffered through a year of difficult change and disappointment in 2016, this year I expect 2018 to be better, much better.

Billy Joel’s 2017 concert was fun, bright and upbeat – kind of what I want 2018 to be. Joel is older and his voice isn’t as strong or on key as it was when he was younger (his Uptown Girl is horrible). But I’m not young either. I have many more years behind me than I have in front of me and I’m coming to grips with my own mortality.

My personal goal for 2018 will be the same that I had for 2014: to pay more attention to the music of my life and less attention to the noise of the world and I hope there will be significantly less noise in the coming year.

Happy New Year! I’ll return to regular (as regular as I’m going to get) posting in mid-January 2018.
