Bringing in 2017 with k.d. lang

Prior to 2013, I would close out each year with a year-end post that featured music and a hope that the coming year would be better than the previous one. For some reason, I didn’t do that for 2014 or 2015. With this post, I am resuming that tradition – this year with the music of k.d.lang.

2016 was a difficult year of change and disappointment for me for reasons I won’t go into now. But I survived it and hope to do the same in 2017. This brings me to the musical selection to close out 2016 and welcome the new year.

I’ve chosen k.d. lang’s version of Leonard Cohen’s classic, Hallelujah. Normally, I chose up-beat songs and performances to welcome the new year. But this year, “up-beat” felt inappropriate. For me, the song Hallelujah is a calming song of hope and resilience. It’s a mantra I want to carry forth in 2017.

My goal for 2017 will be the same that I had for 2014: to pay more attention to the music of my life and less attention to the noise of the world and I suspect there will be plenty of noise in the coming years.

Happy New Year! I’ll return to regular (as regular as I’m going to get) posting in mid-January 2017.
