The Songfic That Wouldn't Die.
(Occurs during Starcrossed.)
He watched the General literally lecture Superman and Diana about whether or not Earth could trust the Thanagarians. He knew both of the heroes had put their personal credibility on the line to convince the world leaders that they should accept this offer of help.
Flash shoved another doughnut in his face and said, "I can't believe they're still discussing this. It's such a no-brainer. Right?"
John looked at the Flash and sighed. "Yeah." With that he turned and walked out into the hallway.
His head was down as he replayed in his mind the sight of Talak kissing the woman who saved his life in Vegas. The same woman who had touched and betrayed his heart.
"The most mysterious creatures in the universe."
John had been lost in his own thoughts and didn't really hear what Batman had just said. "Sorry?" John said as he looked into Batman's face. He thought for a moment that he detected some sympathy from the masked man but with Batman - one couldn't be sure.
"Women," Batman said. "Don't be too hard on yourself. You didn't know she was spoken for."
John was stunned. "How did you..."
Batman cut him off. "It wasn't too hard to figure out. The point is these things happen. You just have to deal with it."
John glared at the masked man for a moment and then said, "Thanks." He turned but felt Batman's hand on his shoulder. John turned back to face him.
Batman smiled and said, "If you wake up and don't want
to smile, if it takes just a little while."
J'onn tapped John on the other shoulder and said,
"Open your eyes and look at the day.
You'll see things in a different
way."
John's jaw dropped. "What the..."
Batman continued, "Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow, don't stop, it'll
soon be here."
J'onn piped in, "It'll be, better than before, yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone."
John stood between the two men silently for a moment.
"Okaayyy." As he turned to leave the Flash zipped up to him and said,
"Why not think about times to come, and not about the things that you've
done. If your life was bad to you, just think what tomorrow will do."
John was getting angry, "Thanks, ALL OF YOU for the advice."
J'onn added, "Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow, don't stop, it'll
soon be here,"
"Yeah, you said that," John retorted. He was now testy.
Batman waved his finger in front of John's face as he offered,
"It'll be, better than before,
yesterday's gone, yesterday's
gone."
"You guys are crazy," John said as he headed back into the council chamber only to bump into Shayera and Hro coming out. Shayera smiled as she said, "All I want is to see you smile, if it takes just a little while."
"Where'd you come from?" John gasped. "You weren't in there before!"
Shayera continued, "I know you don't believe that it's
true, I never meant any harm to you."
The Flash tapped John on the shoulder as he said,
"Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow. Don't stop, it'll soon be here."
J'onn added, "It'll be, better than before, yesterday's gone, yesterday's
gone."
John threw his hands up in the air. "I'm out of here. Forward my mail to Oa."
As John left, he could hear Hro say,
"Don't you look back, don't you look back."

After John was out of sight, Flash turned to Batman and said, "What do you think?"
"I don't know," Batman replied glumly. "I thought we sounded better at rehearsal yesterday."
END (thank goodness)
A/N: Song: "Don't Stop" - C. McVie - Fleetwood Mac. I will never be able to look at this scene in Starcrossed without this song coming into my mind.
