Rise

"Not there," she yelped. "You can't put it...it doesn't go there."

 

"Yes, it can," he huffed. "Besides, I've done this sort of thing before with plenty of Earth women and little boys, too. They all thought it was great fun."

 

"Well, you haven't done it with me and if you don't watch it - you won't."

 

"You're kidding, right. You can't just leave it like this. At least try it. Who knows, I'll bet you'll like it."

 

"Look, John, there's a lot things I like about you, but I'm not stupid. Nature didn't mean for it to go there."

 

"Look, if I don't put it there, then it won't rise. And if it doesn't rise, then neither one of us will have any fun."

 

"Fun? To me it looks like I'm doing all the work. Maybe it's fun from where you stand, but where is my fun?"

 

"Just knowing that you made it rise and dance and you have complete control over it. And it would make me happy."

 

"Spoken like a man. It's all about you. You think making you happy is supposed to make me happy."

 

"Look, I know that most men make the mistake of thinking that what they feel is what women feel, but I've been around long enough to know that's not the case, so trust me on this. If you put it there, it will rise and then you will get the pleasure out of this that I do."

 

"John, every man says trust me and then ..." She stopped. "Okay, I give up."

 

She sighed. "If you're sure...really sure...put it where you want."

 

"I promise you this won't hurt. I have done this before and I can't wait to see the look of pleasure on your face...ah...there...see...that didn't hurt, did it?"

 

"Hmmm" was the reply.

 

"Okay, now - go. Move those tail feathers."

 

Hawkgirl took off running as fast she could holding the kite in her left hand and the ball of string on her right.

 

"Let out some more string,"Lantern yelled. "Let it rise...that's it...good girl...oh yeah...there you go."

 

Hawkgirl squealed with delight as the kite rose in the air and gently danced in the wind hundreds of feet above them.

 

"See," the Lantern said. "I knew exactly where to attach the tail to stabilize the kite. Isn't it great how you can make it rise and dance in the wind on your command? You have to trust me a little more on these things."

 

Hawkgirl smiled. "Okay, so you were right this time. This is a great feeling. So, how do I make it go down?"

 

The Lantern raised an eye brow and laughed. "We are still talking about kites, aren't we?"
