P.O.V.
"Good morning, trainees," the young officer said from the stage.
"Good morning, sir," came the chorus from the recruits seated in the auditorium.
"Today, you will learn about your enemy."
He pointed to a trainee in the first row. "Do you know why we teach you about the enemy, private?"
The private stood up and yelled: "Sir! A known enemy is a dead enemy."
"Good. Sit down!
"Men, I could tell you that our enemy is a mindless barbarian who rapes, murders and pillages the galaxy and we must stop him. But that wouldn't be completely true.
"Our enemy has the same goals and objectives we do - unification of the galaxy. But he has chosen aggression to attain his goals. We, on the other hand, choose to make the galaxy safe by defending other worlds from these demons; thus spreading our love of freedom.
"The enemy has powerful technology and the will to use it. He has large city-states with magnificent skyscrapers and huge farming collectives. He has multi-cultural centers and museums.
"But the economy they've built on the backs of those they've enslaved shall soon collapse. Yet, knowing their way of life is doomed, this evil empire still threatens the peace and freedom loving people of the galaxy.
"They must be stopped! And as defenders of freedom, we shall stop them!
"Watch and learn."
As the lights dimmed, he started the holographic projector. A movie title flashed on the projection behind him:
The Gordanian Homeworld presents: The Thanagarian Menace.
