A Have Gun-Will Travel Lesson in Humility

Earlier this year, I posted that I was so taken with the fact that the Starz Encore Western Channel was rebroadcasting the 1950 series, Have Gun-Will Travel, that I intended to establish a tribute website to this great program.

Paladin in profileLike many things which seem like a good idea in the beginning, this project turned out to be not worth the effort.    I initially thought that I would be able to provide content to the tribute website by providing links and fan fiction stories about ‘The Man in Black.’  I didn’t realize it at the time, but this effort fell into conflict with a decision I had made earlier in the year not to write any more fan fiction because of time constraints.

Recognizing that the site was going to be stagnant without additional content, today I moved the tribute site to my blog where it now has dedicated pages.  This will probably turn out to be the best possible move I could make under the circumstances.  For one thing, it adds additional content to my current blog site and secondly, I no longer feel any pressure to write fan fiction stories to drive traffic to, what in reality is a vanity site.  I still feel that Have Gun-Will Travel was one of the best TV programs of my childhood and the values that it taught have stayed with me my entire life.  I just wish I could’ve been more enthusiastic about promoting site. Despite knowing Paladin would not be happy at my lack of follow up, moving this site has given me some insight on how to move the bigger and more heavily visited BillA1’s Justice League Fan Fiction site.
