A Family Fourth

For the first time in five years, I had my family all together in one spot and it was great.  Daughter met Daughter-in-Law and niece. Son met niece. Cousins  met cousins,  Aunts and Uncles, Nieces and Nephews, Grandkids and kids. It was great and I was a happy man at this gathering.

I gave everybody ball caps in recognition of the events. On the 3rd, we went to Legoland California, rode the rides, ate the food and laughed and bonded like family should. Had dinner at Famous Dave’s Barbeque (service was slow, but the food was good).  Son and Grandson played NCAA football on the Xbox.  Won’t say who won, but if you know my son when I say Hawaii crushed Florida, you’ll know who won. 🙂

Later, they played Rock Band with DIL on lead guitar, Grandson on bass and son on drums. Four year old granddaughter sang lead on Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Shining Star.”  Youngest granddaughter and I sang backup and clapped along.

On the 4th, we played dodge ball, had a barbeque (food comas all around) and the two youngest played in the pool. There was more Rock Band with  granddaughter singing a mean “Eye of the Tiger.”  Then the clan gathered on a hilltop and watched the nighttime fireworks in the town of Vista.

Finally, son and family had to leave. Nieces had bonded like glue and didn’t want to separate. Only the promise that they’d see each other next week, kept the tears to the minimum. This was a great weekend and really made me appreciate family and my Most Significant Other who kept my family together and gave me this great moment.  Will post pictures later.
