President Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize

First, congratulations to the President for his surprising win of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.  As I write this, he has not formally commented on this achievement.

As others will note, only two other sitting U.S. Presidents, have won this award. President Roosevelt won the award in 1906 for drawing up the peace treaty ending the 1905 war between Russia & Japan. President Wilson won the award for founding the League of Nations in 1919. President Obama won for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” which seems to pale, at least to me, in comparison to the above two previous winners.

President Obama has been accused, by both sides of the political aisle, of promising more than he delivers. This award will add fuel to that fire.

He Twittered about it. I’m fascinated that all the responses I’ve seen this morning have been from people who voted for him, all basically saying the same thing: “Cool, but why?”

  2. The RNC response is unbelieveable in comparsion to what the “rest of us” seem to think.
