Got an opportunity today to look at the direct to video release, Superman/ Batman: Public Enemies. Won’t give anything away, but if you’ve saw the Cadmus arc in JLU, specifically Clash and Flashpoint (throw in Starcrossed part 3 for good measure), you have seen most of the high points of this movie.
As David Willis of Shortpacked points out in his excellent review, this story is an adaption of the Loeb/McGuiness graphic novel and the source material is heavily edited for this video. Still, it was disconcerting and yet wonderful to see the characters drawn in the manner I remember from the comic books and not in the stylized Bruce Timm animation I’ve seen for the last decade. And Power Girl was every 12 year old boy’s dream.
Bottom line – an entertaining movie, but don’t expect an animated graphic novel.
