On July 11, 2009, I wrote that the San Diego Padres were so bad that they were well on their way to losing more than 100 games. Well, I have to stand corrected. Today, the San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Giants 4-2 and with that victory won their 63rd game making it impossible for them to lose 100 games this year. There are 21 baseball games left this season. The Padres would have to win 19 of the 21 in order to have a winning season (82 wins-80 losses). The chances of that happening are slim, if not impossible. So, again the best minor league team in the majors will have a losing season. But they are playing better ball and maybe next year now doesn’t look as dim as it did in July. Go Padres!
