Those COVID-19 Quarantine Videos Are Fun

Currently, the United States is rounding the corner (slowly) when it comes to COVID-19 infections and deaths. As I write this, 63.4% of U.S. adults have had at least one COVID vaccination. But a year ago, we Americans (and most of the world) were in a serious lockdown throughout the middle of March and early April 2020.

While we were in lockdown, some very entertaining videos regarding the quarantine were created. Here are five that brought a smile to my face:

1. Created on May 4, 2020, Penn and Kim Holderness  expressed their feelings about the lockdown to the tune of Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean with the song, “Quarantine (Is Not Quite Over). “

2. Created April 24, 2020, the Phoenix Chamber Choir of Vancouver, Canada parodied Billy Joels’ Longest Time. This song has some of the best A cappella singing you will ever hear.

3. Created April 9, 2020, cast and band members of Vista, California’s Moonlight Stage Productions’ “Mamma Mia!” virtually reunited for a parody of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen.” This catchy tune is called  “Quarantine.”

4. Created March 26, 2020 by singer-songwriter Chris Mann, Hello (from the inside) parodies Adele’s “Hello.” You will get an earworm from this one and a smile.

5. On March 28, 2020, New Zealand YouTuber Shirley Șerban created Do Re Mi – Sound of Music Covid 19 song.  It’s a fun video that shows Julie Andrews teaching the Von Trapp children about quarantine to a classic tune.

(Just a side note about New Zealand’s pandemic response – New Zealand lock downed from March 2020 to May 2020. As a result, of their aggressive actions, New Zealand has had 26 deaths from COVID-19 out of a population of 4.9 million since February 2020. The United States, by contrast, has had 586,793 deaths during the same period.)

6. Yes, I know I said I’d provide only five videos, but I wanted to share one more from Penn and Kim Holderness (the same people who did video #1). This is a so very clever – no brilliant – parody of the musical Hamilton which is streaming on Disney+. This video was done on June 30, 2020 just as COVID-19 cases started to rise again in the United States.
