Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 2

Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 2

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of the Jessica Jones series found on Netflix. And season 2 of this series (with the tagline: No Filter) doesn’t disappoint.

There is a lot going on in Marvel's_Jessica_Jones_season2season 2 and I won’t provide any spoilers here, but this second season worked (to me) because of the trauma Jessica experienced in the first season. In this series, Jessica (Krysten Ritter) is still recovering from her encounter with first season mind-control villain, Kilgrave. She has a professional competitor in private investigator, Pryce Cheng (Terry Chen). Lawyer Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) is dealing with personal and professional problems that have clouded her judgment. Jessica’s friends Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor) and Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville) have problems of their own because of Jessica. To add to Jessica’s problems, her new building superintendent wants to evict her. It’s just a typical week for Jessica Jones.

The series isn’t perfect. At 13 episodes, it’s at least 2 episodes too long. It suffers in storytelling, but not in its direction. All 13 episodes were directed by women who did a great job in getting stellar performances from the cast and duplicating iconic comic book shots for the fan boys.

Jessica Jones is still the broken superhero we first met in 2015, but she has proven that she is a survivor. She fights her demons and it is sometimes very painful to watch. She’s an alcoholic with anger management issues and feels that this way of life is the only way available to her. In this second season, we watch Jessica grow as a person and learn who she is and why she is the way she is. I don’t know whether there will be a third season of Jessica Jones. If not, the ending of this season was perfect. Regardless, the journey of Jessica Jones is worth watching whether it continues after this season or not.

Jessica Jones is steaming on Netflix.
