Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – T.R.A.C.K.S

Earlier I wrote that the TV show, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is one of the better shows on television today. I finally feel vindicated in that opinion by the episode: T.R.A.C.K.S.

To be blunt, T.R.A.C.K.S. was the best episode of the series so far. It was fast paced, smartly written, full of action and humor and well acted and it even had a Stan Lee cameo!  T.R.A.C.K.S advanced the overall story plot and gave Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) an opportunity to agents-of-shield-may-warddemonstrate why she is the best action character on TV today. It also introduced us to the Marvel character, Deathlok.

In this episode we got to watch the professional agents, Ward, Coulson and May, do what they do best: think on their feet and fight to survive. Coulson’s team, while chasing mercenaries from Cybertek, is betrayed by Italian law enforcement. This leads to us seeing a series of events simultaneously unfold through the eyes of the individual team members. This unique perspective worked well in this episode.

Coulson throws out references to Asgard and Emil Blonsky (the Abomination and the Hulk’s greatest enemy) in Alaska. But all of this pales compared with the introduction of the character, Deathlok. Yet, this wasn’t the most awesome moment in the show and I’m Agents-of-SHIELD-TRACKS-Deathloknot referring to the surprise shooting of Skye either. That moment turned out to be during the end credits when the producers actually thanked the creators of Deathlok which included  Doug Moench, Rich Buckler and Dwayne McDuffie. This brought a huge smile to my face.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has finally hit its stride and is finally the show I think most hoped it would be. If it continues at this pace, it will be “must see TV” for a long time.

  1. YES! I didn’t realise how psychologically linked I’d become to Milestone Comics (and the main guys behind it) until I found myself rewinding this episode thru the credits, for no apparent reason… only for “Sir” McDuffie’s name to unexpectedly jump out at me!

It brought a tear or two to my eyes, to be sure! Nicely done, Mr. Whedon! ^__^
