It’s a horror film and it’s funny and that’s what makes it such a good movie. And on that point, you can tell that I highly recommend it.
The plot pokes fun at today’s horror genre. Tucker and Dale are two best friends on vacation at their dilapidated mountain house, who are mistaken for murderous backwoods hillbillies by a group of obnoxious, preppy college kids. When one of the students gets separated from her friends, the boys try to lend a hand, but as the misunderstanding grows, so does the body count. In this case, the college kids are more of a threat to Tucker and Dale, than the boys are to the kids. Starring Alan Tudyk as Tucker and Tyler Labine as Dale, this movie is about classic communication misunderstanding.
Most viewers will know Alan Tudyk from his work on Firefly and the movie Serenity. He played Hoban “Wash” Washburne, the ship’s pilot and husband to the second in command, Zoe Washburne, in that series. In this movie, Tudyk demonstrates a great laugh-out-loud comedic flare.
As to Labine’s stellar portrayal of Dale, it will bring tears to your eyes from laughing. As Dale says in the movie, “You want a killer hillbilly? I’ll show you a killer hillbilly.” And he certainly does.
Like the movie tagline says, “Evil just messed with the wrong hillbillies.” You’ll laugh at this bloody R-rated movie – I promise. It’s streaming on Netflix.
