If all the predictions according to the Mayan calendar are correct, then this is the last blog post I will ever write (or of mine you will ever read). If that’s the case, well… it’s been fun, but I wish I could have made more money from this site. But just in case the Mayans were “incorrect,” I’ve got a couple of other posts in the queue for later this month.
Back in May 2011, I wrote about radio evangelist Harold Camping’s prediction for the end of the world at 6 PM on 21 May 2011. While I didn’t have any faith in Mr. Camping’s prediction, I did enjoy the fact that it brought out renewed interest in rock band R.E.M.’s 1987 hit, “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine).”
As we know by now, Mr. Camping was wrong. But the Mayans, who predicted the end of their own culture, seem to have had a better track record in the prediction game. So, I will end this post with the R.E.M.’s 1991 MTV unplugged version of their song. It continues to appeal to me as something simple and fun, but it may also be my last attempt to whistle in the dark.
So if the Mayans are right and this is the end…then my thanks to you for all the fish. Otherwise, hope to see you here next week for a rare Saturday post.
