The Poll

Earlier this month, I answered the house phone and found myself speaking to an automated system that asked if I would partake in an Presidential poll. I said sure. What follows is true:

Phone: If the election were held today, who would you vote for? Press 1 for Governor Mitt Romney or 2 for President Obama.

Me: I press for 2 for President Obama.

Phone: Do you think Governor Romney will do a better job on the economy than Obama has done?  Press 1 for yes or press 2 for no. (Note that he is no longer President Obama. He is simply Obama)

Me: I press for 2 for no.

Phone: Do you think Governor Romney will do a better job on our national security than Obama has done? Press 1 for yes or press 2 for no.

Me: I press for 2 for no.

Phone: Do you think Governor Romney will do a better job reducing the debt than Obama has done? Press 1 for yes or press 2 for no.

Me: I press for 2 for no.

Phone: Thank you for your support of Governor Romney! (disconnects)

Me: (hanging up) Must have been a Fox News poll.

Ha! Yeah. I think they called us with a similar poll a few months ago. The computer told me to press 1 if I thought President Obama (I don’t remember if it bothered using the honorific) was doing a good job, or press 2 if I thought he was doing a poor job. It wouldn’t register a “1” press. I tried five times, and it just kept repeating my options.
