Before there was Batman in 1939, there was the Green Hornet in 1936. Both franchises have had a long movie history with Batman clearly being more successful. I wanted this movie to succeed and if you are a Seth Rogen fan, you will probably think this movie is great fare. Otherwise, sadly, you will agree with me that this movie is clearly the worst film of 2011.
It has no respect for the history of the Green Hornet franchise and tries to be cute in all the wrong places, failing miserably. If your only exposure to the Green Hornet is from the 1960’s TV show, which is mainly famous for exposing Bruce Lee to U.S. audiences, then you don’t know that Brett Reid (the Hornet) is the grand nephew of John Reid, the Lone Ranger. You don’t know it and Seth Rogen clearly didn’t know it or didn’t care, because his script only paid homage to Rogen, not the franchise or his supporting cast. He lost sight of the fact that his job was to tell the Green Hornet story, not make up crap as he went along.
This movie had so much potential and was ruined by an inept script and Rogen’s inability to tell a story that got the audience (or its actors) involved. Don’t waste your money…I’m sorry I wasted mine.
