Dude, You got to get a DELL ….

“But make sure you’re near a fire department.”

Bought a Dell Inspiron 600 (laptop) in May 2005. It has been a really reliable machine, and saved my bacon more than once when my desktop decided that life had no meaning for it anymore.

Came home tonight after taking my most significant other out to dinner. Turned on the TV and had NBC News tell me Dell is recalling 4.1 million Li-on batteries and to remove mine before it starts World War III. (TV News is fear delivered with a smile.)

After waiting a half hour for a Dell tech to chat, turns out the only thing he can tell me is that Dell will make an announcement tomorrow and I am one of the 4.1 million. (Translation: Disconnect the battery, son.)

Now my laptop is a desktop and I’m trying to remember why I wanted a laptop in the first place. The culprit is the Sony battery. Mike Dell just got hit first, but the defective Sony battery is used in a lot of other laptops. I just don’t think Sony can sell enough Playstations to recover from this one.
