Daughters By Design–A Book Review

In the movie, Kung Fu Panda, Master Oogway says to Master Shifu, “One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.” This was the case for Paula and Paul Jarot, who with their three sons, tried to get to their new jobs as teachers in Papua New Guinea from Chicago, but were routed via Hawaii because of delays in getting their passports. Thus, began an twenty-five year odyssey that ended with Paula and Paul adopting  two Cambodian orphans.

Daughters by DesignI don’t normally do book reviews and I certainly don’t do reviews on books printed by the Christian and/or “vanity” press. That is not a slam on the Christian publishing industry as much as it is that some of the authors are quite frankly very preachy without much substance (in my opinion). But that said, Daughters by Design is a 200 page journey that you won’t be able to put down regardless of your religious views.

You will join Paula and Paul Jarot as they battle the challenges of doing an international adoption. You will be amazed at their patience, share in their frustration and applaud a well told story.

So how did I come to this book? I have the privilege of working with one of the Jarot sons. He didn’t volunteer the story of his family to me (Marines don’t do that), but I found out anyway. And the story of how he gained two sisters is such a great read, it deserves to be shared. You can find the book on Amazon. As I said earlier, I don’t do book recommendations, but I strongly recommend this book.
