And the Winner is…

In previous years, I’d venture a couple of  Academy Award picks, but not this year because I didn’t see enough of the nominated films and performances to really pick one. The only “Best Picture” nominee  I saw was “True Grit” (no, I didn’t see “Toy Story 3” for personal reasons). The only nominated animated film I saw was “How To Train Your Dragon,” which I still think is a wonderful piece of work. The music from “Tangled” was nominated for Best Song, but it’s competing against “Toy Story 3,” which seems to nominated everywhere and for everything short of the Presidency. “Alice in Wonderland,” “Iron Man 2” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” are nominated in the visual effects category.

However, I can claim that I  did see one winner.  M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender” was a big winner at the Razzies (The Golden Raspberry Awards) where it won Worst Director, Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor and a new category — Worst Eye-gouging Misuse of 3-D. And sadly, while I don’t think it was the worst film of 2010 (it was far from the best), it had so much baggage accompanying it, it was never really going to get a fair evaluation. My July 2010 review is here.
